My Christmas Wish

Posted Monday December 1, 2014 11:13:04 PM EDT

Please know that my first wish is that as you read this message, it finds you in the very best of health and happiness.

I genuinely hope that this past year has provided you all with "enough" of the things you needed for yourself, while providing to you an abundance of the things that you wanted to share with others.

While some of us prepare for the festivities associated with the Christmas holiday season, we all share the excitement of preparing for a new year. As we ready to put  2014 "in the books" we now start to contemplate resolutions and new personal goals to attain our lifelong dreams in the new year 2015.

Ringing in anew year is always exciting! It brings a sort of unspoken energy, and along with it, the hope of better days ahead. We all seem to have a common desire to better ourselves, improve our environment and the environment for others, and we all hope to become a small part of the seemingly perpetual dream of creating a better world for our planet and its children.

Another wish of mine is that in the new year, more and more of us will become creatures of intelligence rather than continue be a world filled of people that are creatures of emotion.

I truly believe that such a transformation would force those entrusted to lead their various and diverse constituencies, to seek higher ground with more intelligent, benevolent and humane solutions to the problems they currently face.

Perhaps, the manufacturing of problems by leaders, will abate, once they realize that they are no longer capable of wrangling support via emotional taunting.

The conquering through division is only possible because of emotional manipulation. Progress is often, purposely impeded,  because positive change sometimes has its enemies.

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.“ - H. L. Mencken

Year after year, the people of planet earth, make it clear that global peace, equality, and a better, safer planet for their children  is their number one priority and wish for the new year.

During the past few years, I have posted my annual seasonal greeting and new years wishes for hope and peace as my way of conveying that together, we can indeed change this world for the better for our next generations to enjoy. I think of the old Indian proverb that reminds us that this world we live in, we are in fact borrowing from our children.

We can start by sharing such simple things as practicing tolerance, understanding, cultural awareness and perhaps most of all, sharing the hope and optimism that together we CAN make a difference in each others lives.

My wish to share hope and optimism is no small task in a world of never ending events of mass violence and constant destruction its resources.

I believe that the only intelligent reason to bring up the past, is for the purpose of using it as the foundation to build a better future. Furthermore, I have always believed that to achieve great things, one must first believe they CAN,  and that in itself will become infectious in influencing others, to believe in themselves. That's the power of optimism and positive thinking, and why I wish both for all.

I wish that 2015 will be the year of "Intellectual Humility".

Having a thirst for knowledge is indeed a beneficial trait, but only for those humble enough to be willing to learn from ALL of those around them. Even from those who have completely different views than you. Holding opposing thoughts in one mind, is just good for the soul! It creates a fantastic foundation for understanding the most difficult, in order to accomplish what would otherwise may seem like impossible undertakings.

We, as a society have increased access to the horrific events and self-inflicted tragedies that mankind seems to continually deal to itself in the name of political power, religion, and financial gain. Its understandable that many will find it hard to stay positive while being inundated with pictures of atrocities and bad news.

 However, before joining the ranks of pessimists, (that are often created by leaders that profit from negativity and hatred), I prefer to be passionate about shared optimism. Optimism breeds hope and action, and is as contagious as winning.

Pessimism, not so much. It is also contagious but rather it manifests into hopelessness, inaction, blame and acceptance of defeat.

None of these problems are really new, hence its the approach that must change!

Cicero told us a couple of thousands years ago of the "six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century". Those six mistakes were, and STILL are:

1) Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others;
2) Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected;
3) Insisting that a thing is impossible because we can't accomplish it;
4) Refusing to set aside trivial preferences;
5) Neglecting development and refinement of the mind;
6) Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do.

Another wish in the form of a gift!

Here is a fantastic piece, once given to me as a gift at a time when I needed to find reasons to stay positive. It changed my thought process and helped me improve my life while allowing me to improve the lives of others. I wish that it does the same for you while I hope you will share it as a gift to others this holiday season as well.

The "Optimist's Creed" by Christian D. Larson
Promise Yourself:
To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet.
To make all your friends feel that there is something worthwhile in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful expression at all times and give a smile to every living creature you meet.
To give so much time to improving yourself that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud word, but in great deeds.
To live in the faith that the whole world is on your side, so long as you are true to the best that is in you.

My final wish - Please watch this video and join me in an effort that says WE, THE PEOPLE of PLANET EARTH, demand that this sort of behavior will no longer be tolerated and end in 2015.

The Video - John Lennon’s Happy XMAS (WAR IS OVER).  (It makes one ashamed to be part of a human race that continually ignores or tries to justify this sort of behavior: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yN4Uu0OlmTg

Thank you for reading my verbose but heartfelt holiday message!
